You mean Finale 2014 is a great improvement over 2012? I looked into the possibility of upgrading but after reading many reviews it seems that a lot of people don't think that it's gotten much better at all. One of the things that really bothers me about the program is that it forces my interface into 44.1kHz, when I run my system audio at 48kHz (and work that way in Sonar). Apparently this hasn't changed in 2014. And I've never been able to get it to accept MIDI input without huge latency, which makes keyboard input almost impossible. And it's little things like not allowing playback start/stop with the space bar, despite this being standard for playback in most audio and video software.
Click + Space to start playback? Click to stop playback? I also find the way the options and function dialogs are organized to be horribly counter intuitive as well. It's one of those programs that gives you the feeling that it was developed without much consideration to how people expect programs to work (i.e. Design standards). When I learn an Adobe program like Illustrator or Premiere, everything makes sense and I can feel my way around the program intuitively with just a few general pointers.

Ditto with Sonar, Pro Tools and most other audio software I've used. Finale, not so much. This is why I'm so eager to see how Steinberg's scoring software turns out. From reading bits of the development blog it seems like they're really putting a lot of thought into usability and good design.

I was looking at video training and was eyeing macvideopro.com and lynda.com but came across Groove 3. It seems like it may be the way to go based on pricing.
I was just hoping somebody here might be able to provide insight.I'd like to learn Logic Pro X completely but definitely want insight on programming realistic drums.something that would allow me to record the midi drum data with my akai mpk25 and make the drums sound real. I haven't used a recording software in so long but have a decent idea of how it works.Thanks. If you have a decent idea of how it works then play about with the software and whenever you get stuck, refer to the manual. You say you want to program drums to make them sound real well my biggest tip for you is this:Reverb - If you're using sampled drums from packages or you've made a high hat from static, the sound will fade to nothing immediately after the transient. But no matter where you are IRL there will always be a wash of the initial sound of the drum hit as it reflects off surfaces. So by using reverb subtly, you can emulate this. Another good point about drums is that you will find a lot of producers spending their time tweaking each individual part of the kit such as EQing a snare and then sorting out the compression on a kick.
While this can be fun and irritating simultaneously, I recommend finding a reasonably good sounding groove, then EQ any bad freqs out of each drum and then send everything to a bus to add reverb, EQ, compression etc. TO THE WHOLE KIT.This technique is generally overlooked as people want the individual components to sound good but realistically you want the whole kit to gel.
